Each of Big Thief’s folk-rock songs act like memory capsules, unpacking intimate moments via frontwoman Adrianne Lenker’s gorgeous and tender voice. Lenker was raised to be a child pop star by her father; after she moved to New York as teenager, she met the guitarist Buck Meek and followed a different path. With the addition of bassist Max Oleartchik, Big Thief released their 2016 debut album, Masterpiece, a collection of songs about past trauma, domestic violence, and relationships. In 2017, the band dropped their sophomore album, Capacity, a reflection of the dual maternal and childlike instincts that inhabit everyone.
